The Time Ball was erected in 1900 to provide a daily time check by which ships rated their chronometers. The Ball was released at 1300 hours by an electrical signal from the Observatory in Perth. It also triggered a shot from a Cannon. The procedure was superseded by radio signals in 1937. ©gladysclancy
