Homesteaders had to be a Jacks-of-all-trades. They tilled the land, cared for livestock, built houses & barns, dug wells, grew & preserved their food, raised children... they survived. Their great grandchildren would never know life as they knew it. I wonder how we would fare if we had to live in their era.
