This picture shows part of a huge stone man. This is Bardur Snaeffelsas in Arnarstapi (it's huge, you walk through him on the way to the coast). According to the Bardar Saga, Thorkell, Bardur's brother lived at Arnarstapi. Bardur had daughters, Thorkell had sons and they used to play together. One day, when there was pack ice along the shore, Thorkell's son pushed Bardur's daughter, Helga out to sea on an iceberg. Helga drifted to Greenland on the iceberg, but Bardur was infuriated and killed Thorkell's sons. After these events, Bardur vanished into the Snaefellsjokull ice cap.

The rocks along the coast of Arnarstapi are home for thousands of birds, mostly kittiwakes (gulls). A walk along the coastline is recommended to watch the birds and the magnificent lava formations. Three blowholes, connected with the sea, open up on the way.
