This is by far my favorite shot of Yosemite Valley. I was fortunate to live just outside of Yosemite National Park for close to 6 years. During that time I would take my family up to Yosemite nearly every weekend to hike and paint. During the summer I would take the kids down the Merced river that runs though Yosemite Valley in rafts. To get this shot, the road was closed due to early snowfall and we had to park the car at the road closure and walk about a half mile up Yosemite Valley to this point. We were the only ones there on what would normally have been a crowded day in Yosemite. This picture of Yosemite Valley is the result of taking 3 images and combining them in to one image. In the picture you can see Yosemite’s famous El Capitan. El Capitan is the largest exposed piece of granite in the world. If you want to visit Yosemite Valley and not have to deal with the crowds that Yosemite is famous for, I recommend you visit Yosemite in the Winter. You will find that you have nearly all of Yosemite to yourself if you just take a walk through Yosemite Valley. You just have to remember to dress warm and take the proper gear.
