  1. How do I back up my image collections?
    To back up your image collections:
    1. Double click My Documents.
    2. Save the Webshots Data folder onto the desired media. Please note that the Webshots Data folder will not fit onto a floppy disk. You must use either a Zip disk or a CD burner.

  2. How do I move my Webshots image collections to a new computer?
    The best way to move Webshots to your new computer is to save your Webshots Data folder to a disk (This may require a Zip disk or CD burner, for the folder could contain many images). The Webshots Data folder is located in My Documents. Once you have your new computer, copy the Webshots Data folder to My Documents. When you install the Webshots software it will find the photo Collections and install them.

  3. How do I uninstall Webshots Desktop?
    To uninstall the Webshots software:
    1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel on your Windows desktop.
    2. Double click Add or Remove Programs.
    3. Select Webshots Desktop and click Remove(or Add/Remove).

  4. Can I share my Webshots collections with other users on my computer?
    You cannot share Webshots collections with other users on your computer. Each user needs to download their own copy of an image and maintain their own collections.

  5. Can I use Webshots' images outside the Webshots software and website?
    You can not extract or print the Webshots images.

    They are all specially encoded to protect the copyright privileges of our professional photographers. Webshots images can only be used within the Webshots Desktop software and on our website.

    Webshots has purchased the rights to use these images within the Webshots Desktop software and on the Webshots website. We are not authorized to allow them to be used elsewhere. If you would like to use any of the images you will need to contact the photographer or company. There is a link or name under most of the images on our website.

  7. What platforms does the Webshots Desktop work on?
    The Webshots Desktop version is currently supported under Windows 2000, XP and Vista. We would like to offer alternatives in the future (Windows CE, Web TV, Linux, PDA's...) and all suggestions for such can be made in our member feedback area.

  8. Can I customize and combine my image collections?
    To create a new collection:
    1. Click the Create Collection button.
    2. Enter a Title, Description and Topic and click Okay.
    3. The new collection will be in your list of collections.

    To move a photo to a new Collection:

    1. Open your Webshots software
    2. On the Wallpaper & Screensaver tab, highlight All Topics.
    3. You'll see all your Collections to the right. Select the Collection you would like to move the photo from.
    4. Click the photo and drag it to the new Collection title (note: you can only move photos to Collections, not Topics).

    To delete an empty collection:

    1. Click the collection title.
    2. Click the delete button towards the right.

  9. How do I add my own images to the Webshots Desktop software?
    To use personal jpg and bmp photos as your Wallpaper & Screensavers, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    To add an individual photo:

    1. Click the My Computer tab.
    2. Use the navigator on the top left to find a photo you'd like to use as your Wallpaper.
    3. Select it so it is enlarged on the right and click Set Wallpaper.

    To add multiple photos:

    1. Click the My Computer tab.
    2. Click the Add to WP & SS button.
    3. Select the Collection you would like to add the photos to, or create a new Collection.
    4. Click Next.
    5. A new Window will popup, locate the photos you would like to add, select them (note: select multiple files by holding the ctrl key and clicking individual files or holding the shift key and selecting a range of files) and click Open.
    6. A new window will popup, you can arrange, add, remove, edit, title and caption your photos.
    7. Click Next and then Finish to transfer the photos.

  10. How do I disable collections without deleting them?
    To disable a Collection, open your Webshots software and uncheck the box under Active to the right of the collection title.

  11. How do I download an entire page of photos?
    Only Webshots Premium members may download entire pages of photos. You can only download entire pages of photos from the Webshots Gallery section. Images located in the Webshots Daily or Community must be downloaded one at a time.
    1. Go to the Gallery section.
    2. Choose a page of photos you would like to download.
    3. Next to the Download this page of photos link, click on Regular or High Quality. The high quality downloads are the highest resolution we have available.
    4. The page of photos will automatically install to your Webshots Desktop software.

  12. How do I delete an image from my Webshots software?
    To delete a photo:
    1. Open your Webshots Desktop software.
    2. Select the photo you wish to delete and click the Delete button.
    3. Click Yes to delete the photo.

    To set a photo as your wallpaper, open your Webshots Desktop software, select the photo you'd like to use and click Set Wallpaper on the right.

  14. Does the Webshots screensaver have password protection?
    Webshots Desktop version 2.0 does not have password protection, but you may set up a password in your Windows system. To password protect your screen saver, please go to your Display Properties, by right clicking on your Windows desktop and selecting Properties, or by going to your Control Panel. From Display Properties, click on the Screen Saver tab. For Windows XP, select "On resume, display Welcome screen" or "On resume, password protect" and click OK. For Windows 2000, Me, and 98, select Password protected and click Apply, then OK.

  15. Why can't I upload multiple photos?
    Images do not display correctly under step 2 when adding multiple photos under certain Windows 98/NT 4 installations. Try changing the filenames before uploading the photos.

  16. When I try to upload a photo, I get an error saying I am not connected to the Internet. Why?
    You may be behind a firewall, which is interfering with uploads to Webshots. Allowing traffic through the webshots.com domain within your firewall settings should fix the error. Refer to the help file in your firewall software for instructions.

    If you continue to experience errors, please clear out the Webshots Desktop cache:
    1. Click the Options button.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click the Clear Cache button.

  17. How do I edit, crop or rotate My Photos Online with the Webshots Desktop software?
    To edit your online photos using the Webshots Desktop software. Open the Webshots Desktop software and click on the My Photos Online tab and Login. Find the photo you want to make changes to and click on the Edit link. From there you will see the Crop and rotate buttons. You can crop, rotate, add a caption or change the album title of your photo, click Ok for the changes to take effect.

  18. How do I rearrange photos using the latest version of the Webshots Desktop software in my Collections and My Photos?
    To move a photo to a new Album, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    1. Click on the My Photos Online tab and Login.
    2. Select the Album where you would like to move the photo from.
    3. Click on the Edit Album button.
    4. Select Move Photos to Another Album.
    5. Check the photos you would like to move. If you want to move all of the photos click on the Select All link.
    6. At the bottom where it says Move to choose the Album where you would like to move the photos.
    7. When you are done click on Move Photos and the photos will move to your new Album.

    To move a photo to a new Collection, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    1. Click on the Wallpaper & Screensaver tab and highlight All Topics.
    2. You’ll see all your Collections to the right. Select the Collection you would like to move the photo from.
    3. Click on the Edit Collection button.
    4. Select Move Photos to Another Collection.
    5. Check the photos you would like to move. If you want to move all of the photos click on the Select All link.
    6. At the bottom where it says Move to choose the Collection where you would like to move the photos.
    7. When you are done click on Move Photos and the photos will move to your new Collection.

  19. How do I move photos to a new Collection or Album using the latest version of the Webshots Desktop software?
    If you would like to rearrange photos using the Webshots Desktop software with in a Collection or Album please follow the directions below:

    1. Double click on the Webshots Desktop icon.
    2. To rearrange your photos in your Collections click on the Wallpaper & Screensaver tab.
    3. Go to the Collection where you would like to move the photos.
    4. Click on Edit Collection.
    5. Click on the Rearrange Photos within Collection.
    6. Next drag and drop the photos on where you would like for them to show and click on Save for the changes to take place.

    To rearrange photos on your online account click on the My Photos tab and Login.

    1. Go to the Album where you would like to move the photos.
    2. Click on Edit Album.
    3. Click on the Rearrange Photos within Album.
    4. Next drag and drop the photos on where you would like for them to show and click on Save for the changes to take place.
    5. Your changes will show on your online account in My Photos once our servers have updated.

  20. How do I make my wallpaper change automatically?
    To enable wallpaper cycling:
    1. Open the Webshots software by double clicking the Webshots Desktop icon on your desktop.
    2. Click the Options button.
    3. Under the Wallpaper tab use the drop down menu next to Automatically Cycle Wallpaper Every for selection of a time.

    Webshots must be in your tray for your wallpaper to automatically cycle. To enable your tray, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    1. Click the Options button.
    2. On the General tab, check the box next to "Show tray icon".
    3. Click OK to save your changes.

  21. Can I change the location of where my photo collections are stored?
    To change the location of the Webshots Data folder, open the Webshots Desktop software by double clicking the icon on the desktop.
    1. Click the Options button.
    2. Click the Advanced tab.
    3. Click the Move Photos button.
    4. Navigate to a new location and click the Select button.
    5. The Webshots Data folder will now be moved to the new location.

    Moving the Webshots Data location to a network/mapped drive or removable media is not supported.

    1. Open the Webshots software and click Options in the upper right corner.
    2. Select the Wallpaper tab.
    3. Click the box next to Display calendar on desktop wallpaper.
    4. Click OK to save your changes.

  23. How do I disable my screensaver and/or wallpaper?
    To disable your Webshots screensaver, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
    1. Click the Options button.
    2. Click the Screensaver tab.
    3. Uncheck the box next to Use Webshots as screensaver.
    4. Click OK to save your changes.

    To disable your wallpaper:

    1. Click the Wallpaper tab.
    2. Uncheck the box next to Use Webshots Wallpaper on Desktop.
    3. Click OK to save your changes.

  24. How do I stop the Webshots software from opening when I download a photo?
    To stop the photo manager from opening each time you download a photo:
    1. Open your Webshots software.
    2. Click the Options button.
    3. Click the Internet tab.
    4. Uncheck the box next to Open in Photo Manager.
    5. Click OK to save your changes.

  25. How do I stop my wallpaper from automatically cycling?
    To stop your wallpaper from cycling:
    1. Open the Webshots software.
    2. Click the Options button.
    3. Under the Wallpaper tab use the drop down menu next to Automatically Cycle Wallpaper Every to select Never.

  26. How can I adjust the size of images on my desktop?
    Open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
    1. Click the Options button.
    2. Click the Wallpaper tab.
    3. Check/Uncheck the box next to Enlarge picture to best fit desktop.

    Since widescreen monitors are not standard our software is unable to best fit these screens. While version 1 did offer a stretch feature, this distorted the original image so that feature has been disabled.

  27. The downloaded pictures are automatically setting as my wallpaper. Can I change this?
    To disable the setting of new downloads as your wallpaper:
    1. Open your Webshots software
    2. Click the Options button.
    3. Click the Internet tab.
    4. Uncheck the box next to Set as current wallpaper.

  28. My Webshots Desktop keeps trying to connect to the internet without my permission. How can I disable this?
    The Webshots Desktop is setup for automatic updates of Favorite Member and Daily Photo data. To disable this function:
    1. Click Start and navigate to Settings >> Control Panel.
    2. Open Network and Dial-up Connections.
    3. On the Advanced menu, click Dial-up Preferences.
    4. On the Autodial tab, select the check box next to the location where you want to disable autodial, and then click OK.

  29. My images are showing up very grainy, pixelated and blurry. How can I fix this?
    There are a few reasons photos would appear grainy, pixelated and blurry.

    First, be sure you are downloading photos properly. To download a photo, click it so it is slightly enlarged. If you are in the Daily or Gallery section click the High Quality or Regular button. If you are in the Community section, click the Download Photo button. Photos will automatically install to your Webshots software.

    If you are unable to download, be sure you have downloaded the Webshots Desktop. Visit our Software Download page to download the latest version of Webshots Desktop. Also, be sure you are signed up and logged in to your Webshots account.

    If you have the Webshots software, your Display Properties' Color settings may be too low.

    1. Right click on your desktop.
    2. Select Properties.
    3. Click on the Settings tab.
    4. The Colors settings may be set at 16 colors. Set it to at least High Color (16 bit). The higher you set the color, the better the pictures will display.

    If the images were downloaded from the Community section of Webshots, these images may not have the same quality as those from the Gallery or Daily area.

  30. Why does the Webshots calendar show the wrong date?
    The Webshots calendar will only update when Webshots is in your taskbar tray. To enable your tray:
    1. Open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.
    2. Click the Options button.
    3. On the General tab check the box next to "Show tray icon".
    4. Click OK to save your changes.

    It is possible that the Webshots calendar may get stuck from time to time. To update your calendar type Ctrl+Shift+w at the same time on your keyboard to refresh your wallpaper.

    Also, The Webshots calendar receives its information from your internal clock. To update your internal clock, double click on the time on the bottom right side of your computer. Update the date and click OK. Refresh your wallpaper in order for the Webshots calendar to update.

  31. Why aren't the photos I download going to my Webshots Desktop software?
    To download a photo, click it so it is slightly enlarged. If you are in the Daily or Gallery section click the High Quality or Regular button. If you are in the Community section, click the Download Photo button. Photos will automatically install to your Webshots software.

    If you are unable to download, be sure you have installed the Webshots Desktop. Visit our Software Download page to get the latest version of Webshots Desktop. Also, be sure you are signed up and logged in to your Webshots account.

    Photos you download from Webshots are automatically installed to your Webshots software. If photos are not downloading correctly, try clicking the Click here if the photo does not download automatically link on the page that says Enjoy your new Photo! to start the download.

    When you click a photo to download, Webshots sends the photo to your computer. Once it's sent, it may be interrupted by Internet connection or other computer problems. Be sure the download has completed before choosing the next photo.

    Select a new photo for your wallpaper. To change your wallpaper, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    Try disabling your Webshots screensaver Effects.
    1. Open your Webshots software.
    2. Click the Options button.

    5. Click OK.

  34. Why does my monitor go black after the screensaver has been running for a while?
    Within your Control Panel Display settings there is an option that shuts your monitor off after a period of non-use. To change this:
    1. Go to your Start menu.
    2. Select Settings.
    3. Click on Control Panel.
    4. Double click on Display.
    5. Click on the Screen Saver tab.
    6. At the bottom of this Window is a section on Energy Saving features. Click the Advanced or Power button.
    7. Change the setting for Turn Monitor off: to Never.
    8. Click OK.

  35. I am getting an error that I do not have any Collections. What should I do?
    First, open Webshots Desktop and verify you have at least one collection downloaded. If you have not downloaded any photos, visit Webshots and click a photo to download.

    If you have collections saved in Webshots Desktop:
    1. Open the Webshots Data folder which is, by default, located in My Documents.
    2. Delete the Collections.html file and the Playlist.txt.
    3. Restart the Webshots Desktop software.
