  5. Does the Webshots screensaver have password protection?

  6. Webshots Desktop does not have password protection, but you may set up a password in your Windows system. To password protect your screen saver, please go to your Display Properties, by right clicking on your Windows desktop and selecting Properties, or by going to your Control Panel. From Display Properties, click on the Screen Saver tab. For Windows XP, select "On resume, display Welcome screen" or "On resume, password protect" and click OK. For Windows 2000, Me, and 98, select Password protected and click Apply, then OK.

  7. Can I change the location of where my photo collections are stored?

  8. To change the location of the Webshots Data folder, open the Webshots Desktop software by double clicking the icon on the desktop.

    Click the Options button.

    Click the Advanced tab.

    Click the Move Photos button.

    Navigate to a new location and click the Select button.

    The Webshots Data folder will now be moved to the new location.

    Moving the Webshots Data location to a network/mapped drive or removable media is not supported.

    Open your Webshots software.

    Click the Options button.

  13. Why does the Webshots calendar show the wrong date?

  14. The Webshots calendar will only update when Webshots is in your taskbar tray. To enable your tray:


    Open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    Click the Options button.

    On the General tab check the box next to "Show tray icon".

    Click OK to save your changes.


    It is possible that the Webshots calendar may get stuck from time to time. To update your calendar type Ctrl+Shift+w at the same time on your keyboard to refresh your wallpaper.

    Also, The Webshots calendar receives its information from your internal clock. To update your internal clock, double click on the time on the bottom right side of your computer. Update the date and click OK. Refresh your wallpaper in order for the Webshots calendar to update.

  15. Why does my monitor go black after the screensaver has been running for a while?

  16. Within your Control Panel Display settings there is an option that shuts your monitor off after a period of non-use. To change this:


    Go to your Start menu.

    Select Settings.

    Click on Control Panel.

    Double click on Display.

    Click on the Screen Saver tab.

    At the bottom of this Window is a section on Energy Saving features. Click the Advanced or Power button.

    Change the setting for Turn Monitor off: to Never.

    Click OK.

  17. Every time I download a photo, it resets it as my wallpaper. How do I stop that?

  18. Open the Preferences menu and deselect Image Handling. This will disable the automatic setting of downloaded images as your wallpaper.

  22. The best way to move Webshots to your new computer is to save your "Webshots Data" folder to a disk. (This may require a Zip disk or CD burner, for the folder could contain many images). The "Webshots Data" folder is located in "My Documents" or "Documents." Once you have your new computer, copy the "Webshots Data" folder to "My Documents." When you install the Webshots software it will find the photo Collections and install them.

  28. To use personal jpg and bmp photos as your Wallpaper & Screensavers, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    To add an individual photo:


    Click the My Computer tab.

    Use the navigator on the top left to find a photo you'd like to use as your Wallpaper.

    Select it so it is enlarged on the right and click Set Wallpaper.


    To add multiple photos:


    Click the My Computer tab.

    Click the Add to WP & SS button.

    Select the Collection you would like to add the photos to, or create a new Collection.

    Click Next.

    A new Window will popup, locate the photos you would like to add, select them (note: select multiple files by holding the ctrl key and clicking individual files or holding the shift key and selecting a range of files) and click Open.

    A new window will popup, you can arrange, add, remove, edit, title and caption your photos.

    Click Next and then Finish to transfer the photos.

  33. The images look like they are downloading but they do not appear in my photo manager. Where are they?

  34. Make sure that you have a Webshots account and you are logged in.

    If you are logged in to your Webshots account, your Webshots Desktop software may be stuck in a loop. The easiest solution is to reboot your computer or end task on the multiple copies of Webshots that are running.

    To avoid this from happening again, wait a couple of minutes between downloading each image. This will allow each image to process correctly.

    You may need re-download the images for them to appear in your Webshots Desktop software.

  35. I tried to install a Webshots collection or update my software but it won't stop unzipping. What should I do?

  36. You have overwritten your Webshots program file with a photo collection or a Webshots Desktop software update installation file.

    The solution is to reinstall the Webshots Desktop software.


    Open your Windows Explorer program.

    Click on your C: hard drive.

    Click on your Program Files folder.

    Click on your Webshots folder.

    Save your Collections folder to your desktop.

    Delete your Webshots folder.

    Download Webshots.

    Save the file to your desktop.

    Double click on the file to install Webshots.

    Follow the installation instructions.

    After the installation is complete, copy your old Collections into your new Collections folder.


    To prevent this problem in the future, be sure to save photo collections or update installation files to your desktop.

  37. Every time I try to change the photo, I get this message: "A problem occurred processing"

  38. Your monitor is set at 16 colors.


    Right click on the Desktop.

    Select Properties.

    Click on the Settings tab.

    Change the Color to at least High Color (16 bit).

    You may need to restart the computer so that the settings take place.

  40. It sounds like you need to completely reinstall the Webshots software:

    1. Click Start > Settings > Control Panel and then double click ""Add or Remove Programs.""
    2. Select ""Webshots Desktop"" and click ""Remove"" (or ""Add/Remove"").
    3. A box will pop up asking ""Do you want to delete all downloaded Webshots photos?"" Click ""No.""
    4. Another box will pop up, click ""No"" again.
    5. Visit http://www.webshots.com/samplers/ and click the ""Download Now"" button.
    6. Webshots will find previously downloaded Collections and automatically add them during installation.

    To get the best image quality, we recommend using .jpg image files. You need to experiment with the compression factor to see what works best for you. It is inevitable that there will be some loss of quality. For 640 x 480 images, .jpg images around 100k in size should look great.

    Media
    Add your images by clicking on the Add button. You can remove and edit some image properties here.

    Settings
    Select certain properties for your screen saver.

    Branding
    Give your screen saver a name.

    Sound Effects
    Add sound effects to your screen saver.

    Assets
    A list of all the files used in your screen saver.

    Preview and Build
    Preview or build your screensaver. You have three choices:


    Just install screen saver on this computer. This will install the file on your computer.

    1.44MB Floppy Disks. It will place the install file on disk.

    Single File. This will create an install file on your computer as setup.exe on your desktop.


    After selecting, click on Create Screen Saver Installation. If you want to save a project to edit later, click on File, Save Project As... then give your project a name.

    6. Next drag and drop the photos on where you would like for them to show and click on Save for the changes to take place.

    To rearrange photos on your online account click on the My Files Online tab.

    1. Go to the Album where you would like to move the photos.
    2. Click on Edit Album and Rearrange Files within Album.
    3. Next drag and drop the photos on where you would like for them to show and click on Save for the changes to take place.
    4. Your changes will show on your online account in My Photos once our servers have updated.

    To move a photo to a new Collection:

    On the Wallpaper & Screensaver tab, highlight All Topics.

    You'll see all your Collections to the right. Select the Collection you would like to move the photo from.

    Click the photo and drag it to the new Collection title (note: you can only move photos to Collections, not Topics). You can also select Edit Collection and then select Move Files to Another Collection.


    To delete an empty collection:

    Click the collection title.

    Click the Edit Collection button and then select Delete Collection

  73. When I try to upload a photo, I get an error saying that I am not connected to the Internet. Why?

  74. You may be behind a firewall, which is interfering with uploads to Webshots. Allowing traffic through the Webshots.com domain within your firewall settings should fix the error. Refer to the help file in your firewall software for instructions.

    If you continue to experience errors, please clear out the Webshots Desktop cache: Click the Options button —> Click the Advanced tab —> Click the Clear Cache button.

    Webshots must be in your tray for your wallpaper to automatically cycle. To enable your tray, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    Since widescreen monitors are not standard, our software is unable to best fit these screens. While version 1 did offer a stretch feature, this distorted the original image so that feature has been disabled.

  86. The Webshots Desktop is setup for automatic updates of Favorite Member and Daily Photo data. To disable this function:

    Click Start and navigate to Settings >> Control Panel.

    Open Network and Dial-up Connections.

    On the Advanced menu, click Dial-up Preferences.

    On the Autodial tab, select the check box next to the location where you want to disable autodial, and then click OK.

  88. There are a few reasons photos would appear grainy, pixelated and blurry.First, be sure you are downloading photos properly. To download a photo, click it so it is slightly enlarged. If you are in the Daily or Gallery section click the High Quality or Regular button. If you are in the Community section, click the Download Photo button. Photos will automatically install to your Webshots software.If you are unable to download, be sure you have downloaded the Webshots Desktop. Visit our Software Download page to download the latest version of Webshots Desktop. Also, be sure you are signed up and logged in to your Webshots account.If you have the Webshots software, your Display Properties' Color settings may be too low.Right click on your desktop.Select Properties.Click on the Settings tab.The Colors settings may be set at 16 colors. Set it to at least High Color (16 bit). The higher you set the color, the better the pictures will display.If the images were downloaded from the Community section of Webshots, these images may not have the same quality as those from the Gallery or Daily area.

  90. To download a photo, click it so it is slightly enlarged. If you are in the Daily or Gallery section click the High Quality or Regular button. If you are in the Community section, click the Download Photo button. Photos will automatically install to your Webshots software.

    Photos you download from Webshots are automatically installed to your Webshots software. If photos are not downloading correctly, try clicking the Click here if the photo does not download automatically link on the page that says Enjoy your new Photo! to start the download.

    When you click a photo to download, Webshots sends the photo to your computer. Once it's sent, it may be interrupted by Internet connection or other computer problems. Be sure the download has completed before choosing the next photo.

    Suffixes: .wbz

    Be sure to select the Webshots Desktop application as the owner of this MIME type.

    7. When you are done click on Move Photos and the photos will move to your new Album. 
    To move a photo to a new Collection, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop. 

     

    1. Click on the Wallpaper & Screensaver tab and highlight All Topics.

    2. You’ll see all your Collections to the right. Select the Collection you would like to move the photo from. 

    3. Click on the Edit Collection button.

    4. Select Move Photos to Another Collection.

    5. Check the photos you would like to move. If you want to move all of the photos click on the Select All link.

    6. At the bottom where it says Move to choose the Collection where you would like to move the photos.

    7. When you are done click on Move Photos and the photos will move to your new Collection.

    3. A box will pop up asking ""Do you want to delete all downloaded Webshots photos?"", click ""No.""
    4. Another box will pop up, click ""No"" again.
    5. Visit http://www.webshots.com/samplers/ and click the ""Download Now"" button.
    6. Webshots will find previously downloaded Collections and automatically add them during installation.

  144. It appears that Windows is running low on resources/memory. Webshots doesn't appear to have any memory leaks. Chances are that you may be running applications that drain the system memory until Webshots is eventually unable to display pictures.

    We suggest that you reboot as required and if possible run the resource meter (Start/Programs/Accessories/System Tools/Resource Meter) and keep an eye on their resources to see what application(s) are causing memory leak problems.

    It is possible that the Webshots calendar may get stuck from time to time. To update your calendar type Ctrl+Shift+w at the same time on your keyboard to refresh your wallpaper.

    Also, The Webshots calendar receives its information from your internal clock. To update your internal clock, double click on the time on the bottom right side of your computer. Update the date and click OK. Refresh your wallpaper in order for the Webshots calendar to update.
