  4. To delete a photo:

    Open your Webshots Desktop software.

    Select the photo you wish to delete and click the Delete button.

    Click Yes to delete the photo.

  5. Does the Webshots screensaver have password protection?

  6. Webshots Desktop does not have password protection, but you may set up a password in your Windows system. To password protect your screen saver, please go to your Display Properties, by right clicking on your Windows desktop and selecting Properties, or by going to your Control Panel. From Display Properties, click on the Screen Saver tab. For Windows XP, select "On resume, display Welcome screen" or "On resume, password protect" and click OK. For Windows 2000, Me, and 98, select Password protected and click Apply, then OK.

  7. Can I change the location of where my photo collections are stored?

  8. To change the location of the Webshots Data folder, open the Webshots Desktop software by double clicking the icon on the desktop.

    Click the Options button.

    Click the Advanced tab.

    Click the Move Photos button.

    Navigate to a new location and click the Select button.

    The Webshots Data folder will now be moved to the new location.

    Moving the Webshots Data location to a network/mapped drive or removable media is not supported.

  9. How do I stop the Webshots software from opening when I download a photo?

  10. To stop the photo manager from opening each time you download a photo:

    Open your Webshots software.

    Click the Options button.

    Click the Internet tab.

    Uncheck the box next to Open in Photo Manager.

    Click OK to save your changes.

  11. Why does my monitor go black after the screensaver has been running for a while?

  12. This is due to the time that is set on your computer for the power savings. If you want to change this, go to the Start button and then to Control Panel. Open Power Options. You will be able to reset the time before your display turns off here.

  13. Every time I download a photo, it resets it as my wallpaper. How do I stop that?

  14. Open the Preferences menu and deselect Image Handling. This will disable the automatic setting of downloaded images as your wallpaper.

  15. How do I transfer Webshots from an old computer to a new one?

  16. The best way to move Webshots to your new computer is to save your 'Webshots Data' folder on the old computer to a disk. This will require a CD, DVD or flash drive as the folder could contain many images. The Webshots Data folder is located, by default, in the Documents directory. Once you have your new computer, copy the Webshots Data folder to the Documents directory on the new hard drive. Finally, install the Webshots Desktop Application on your new computer by going here and clicking the 'download now' button. When you install the Webshots Software, it will find the photo Collections and install them.

  17. How do I add my own pictures into my Webshots Desktop Application?

  18. To use personal jpg or bmp photos as your Wallpaper & Screensavers, open your Webshots Desktop Application by double clicking the icon on your desktop and follow these directions.

    1. Select the 'My Computer' tab.
    2. Click the 'Add to WP & SS' button.
    3. Select the Collection you would like to add the photo(s) to or create a new Collection.
    4. Click 'Next.'
    5. A new window will open. Locate the photo(s) you would like to add, select them (note: select multiple files by holding the "Ctrl" key and clicking individual files or holding the "Shift" key and selecting a range of files) and click 'Open.'
    6. A new window will open. You can arrange, add, remove, edit, or add title and caption to your photo(s).
    7. Click 'Next' and then 'Finish' to transfer the photos.

  22. To rearrange photos on your Webshots homepage, please open the Desktop Application and select the My Files Online tab.

    1. Sign in to your membership.
    2. Go to the Album where you would like to move the photos.
    3. Click on Edit Album and Rearrange Files within Album.
    4. Next drag and drop the photos where you would like for them to display.
    5. Click on Save for the changes to take place.

  23. How do I remove the Webshots Sampler Collection?

  24. The Sampler Collection cannot be deleted from the Desktop Application. However, you can disable this collection if you do not want it to cycle in your screensavers or wallpaper. Open the Desktop Application and follow the directions below.

    1. On the left and under the 'Wallpaper and Screensavers' tab, highlight 'All Topics.'
    2. Scroll through the list to locate the 'Weshots Combo Sampler.'
    3. Remove the check from the box in the Active column.

  26. Please use the steps below to enlarge Webshots photos to best fit your monitor screen. Please open the Webshots Desktop Application by double clicking on our icon on your desktop.

    1. Click the 'Options' button.

    3. Put a check in the box next to 'Enlarge picture to best fit desktop.'

    4. Now, choose the 'Wallpaper' tab.

    5. Put a check in the box next to 'Enlarge picture to best fit desktop.' Please also select 'Crop with picture's aspect ratio.'

    6. Click 'OK' to save your changes.

  27. How do I adjust my wallpaper and screensaver settings?

  28. To adjust your wallpaper and screensaver settings, open the Webshots Desktop Application on your desktop.

    To change your wallpaper manually:

    1. Select the photo you'd like to use on your desktop wallpaper.

    2. Click the 'Set Wallpaper' button.

    To set the wallpaper to change automatically:

    1. Click the 'Options' button.

    2. Select the 'Wallpaper' tab.

    3. Use the drop down menu next to 'Automatically cycle wallpaper every' to choose your selection of time. Put a number in the box before the time you have selected, so you have 30 seconds, 5 minutes, 1 hours, etc. Select 1 never to prevent automatic changes to the wallpaper.

    4. Click 'OK' to save your changes.

    To enable your Webshots screensaver:

    1. Click the 'Options' button.

    2. Click the 'Screensaver' tab.

    3. Check the box next to 'Use Webshots as screensaver'.

    4. Set when you want the screensaver to begin and how long you want each image to display.

    5. Click 'OK' to save your changes.

    To have your wallpaper and screensaver fill the entire monitor:


    1. Click the 'screensaver' tab.

    2. Check the box next to 'Enlarge picture to best fit desktop'.

    3. Repeat the process on the 'wallpaper' tab.

    4. Choose 'crop with picture's aspect ratio'.

    5. Click 'OK' to save your changes.

    Please note that the photos will fill monitor screens in 4:3 or 16:9 format. Laptop monitors may not be this format and, consequently, black bars will fill the space around the photos.

  33. How do I download the Webshots Desktop Application?

  34. Please check the following to make sure that you're ready to upgrade the Webshots Desktop Application.

    1. You are the administrator or have administrative privileges for your computer.

    2. Your Internet Security program(s) accepts the installer.

    3. Your firewall does not block the installer.

    4. You have your Webshots user name and password handy as you will need to sign in to personalize the application. When you put these in their respective fields, please be sure to not have any spaces before or after the user name or password. Please type this information in lower case.

  35. How do I edit, crop or rotate My Photos Online with the Webshots Desktop software?

  36. To edit your online photos using the Webshots Desktop software. Open the Webshots Desktop software and click on the My Photos Online tab and Sign in. Find the photo you want to make changes to and click on the Edit link. From there you will see the Crop and rotate buttons. You can crop, rotate, add a caption or change the album title of your photo, click Ok for the changes to take effect.

  41. How do I uninstall the Webshots Desktop Application?

  42. In order to uninstall the Webshots Desktop Application, please follow these directions.

    1. Click the Start button in the lower left corner of your monitor screen.

    2. Select Control Panel and double click Add or Remove Programs. In you have Vista or Windows 7, please select Programs and Features.

    3. Select 'Webshots Desktop' and click 'Remove' ('Uninstall' for Vista or Windows 7).

    If you encounter problems in removing the Software in this manner, go to here and try to download our Software again. You should receive a prompt to repair or remove. Select remove.

    If you are still having difficulty removing Webshots from your Computer, please follow these steps.

    1. Open the Task Manager by either right-clicking on the task bar or holding down the Ctrl+Alt+Delete keys simultaneously and then selecting Task Manager.

    2. Click on the Processes tab.

    3. Highlight AGCoreService.exe and click the End Process button.

    4. >Close the Task Manager.

    5. Click on the Start Button.

    6. Open My Computer.

    7. Double click to open the local or C: drive and then double click on the Program Files folder.

    8. Delete the AGI folder. Right click on this folder and then left click on Delete from the dropdown menu.

    9. Follow these same directions to delete the Webshots folder.

  43. Can I share my Webshots collections with other users on my computer?

  44. You cannot share Webshots collections with other users on your computer. Each user needs to download their own copy of an image and maintain their own collections.

  45. How do I customize my image collections?

  46. In order to customize your image collections in the Desktop Application, please open the Application and follow the directions below.

    To create a new collection:

    1. Click the Create Collection button.

    2. Enter a Title, Description and Topic and click Okay.

    3. The new collection will be in your list of collections.

    To move a photo to a new Collection:

    1. Select the Collection you would like to move the photo from.

    2. Select Edit Collection and then select Move Files to Another Collection.

    3. Select the photo(s) you want to move.

    4. Choose the destination album from the dropdown box at the bottom of the window.

    To rearrange photos within a collection:

    1. Select the collection.

    2. Click on Edit Collection.

    3. Click on the Rearrange Photos within Collection.

    4. Drag and drop the photos where you would like for them to display.

    5. Click on Save for the changes to take place.

    To delete a collection:

    1. Select the collection title.

    2. Click the Edit Collection button.

    3. Select Delete Collection.

  51. When I try to upload a photo, I get an error saying that I am not connected to the Internet. Why?

  52. You may be behind a firewall, which is interfering with uploads to Webshots. Allowing traffic through the Webshots.com domain within your firewall settings should fix the error. Refer to the help file in your firewall software for instructions.

    If you continue to experience errors, please clear out the Webshots Desktop cache: Click the Options button —> Click the Advanced tab —> Click the Clear Cache button.

  54. To enable wallpaper cycling:

    Open the Webshots software by double clicking the Webshots Desktop icon on your desktop.

    Click the Options button.

    Under the Wallpaper tab use the drop down menu next to Automatically Cycle Wallpaper Every for selection of a time.

    Webshots must be in your tray for your wallpaper to automatically cycle. To enable your tray, open your Webshots software by double clicking the icon on your desktop.

    Click the Options button.

    On the General tab, check the box next to ""Show tray icon"".

  60. Please configure your computer so that our photos will open with the Webshots Desktop Application (Photo Manager Launcher).

    If you're using Windows XP, you can set the Webshots Photo Manager as the default program to open WBZ files downloaded from Webshots. Please follow these directions:

    1. Click the Start button.
    2. Select My Computer.
    3. Click on Tools.
    4. Select Folder Options.
    5. Select File types.
    6. Scroll down list to locate WBZ file. Click on the entry.
    7. Look below the list for 'Details for WBZ extension'.
    8. If it doesn't open with Webshots Photo Manager, click the 'Change' button.
    9. Locate the Webshots Photo Manager Launcher and select it.
    10. Place a check by 'Always use the selected program to open this kind of file'.
    11. Click OK.
    12. Click Close.

    If you're using Windows Vista or Windows 7, please follow these directions to open the wbz files:

    1. Click on the Windows logo in the lower left corner of your monitor screen.
    2. Select Control Panel.
    3. Open Default Programs.
    4. Click on 'Associate a file type or protocol with a program' or 'make a file type always open with a specific program'.
    5. Click on .wbz
    6. Click on the 'Change program' button.
    7. Select 'Webshots Photo Manager Launcher'.

  61. How do I upload multiple pictures at the same time to my online albums?

  62. Member have two options for uploading their photos to their online albums on Webshots. Go to http://www.webshots.com and log in to your account and click on 'upload.' This will allow you to choose the photos to upload and also allows you to create a new album or add to an existing one.

    Members can also upload via our Desktop Application. Please open the Desktop Application and click on the My Files Online tab. Log in to your membership. Click on the Upload More button in the upper right corner and follow the steps to upload your photos.

    In order to select the photos you wish to upload, hold down the Ctrl button on your keyboard as you make the selections.

    1. Click the Start or Windows logo button in the lower left corner of your monitor.

    4. Return to the Windows desktop, right click, and select 'Paste.' You'll see a Webshots Data folder on the Windows desktop.

  70. Members receive the "corrupt installation" message when the installation file did not completely download. This usually happens due to Internet connection problems. If you continue to have problems downloading, please contact your Internet service provider to see if they have been having problems or if any other users have reported problems downloading. Please try again to download our Desktop Application by going here and clicking the 'download now' button.

    1. Open the Webshots Desktop Application.

    2. Select the photo you want to use as your wallpaper.

  76. To add the calendar to your desktop wallpaper, open your Webshots Desktop Application and follow these directions:

    1. Click the 'Options' button.

    2. Click the 'Wallpaper' tab.

    3. Check the box next to 'Display calendar on desktop wallpaper.'

    4. Click 'OK' to save your changes.

    Note that you can also set the calendar text size, day of week to start on, calendar position on the wallpaper, and past and future months to display.

  78. You need to refresh your background. To do this, open your Webshots Desktop software and double click on an image from another collection.

  79. Why doesn't my calendar update?

  80. The Webshots calendar will only update automatically when Webshots is in your system tray. To enable this, open the Webshots Desktop Application and click on the Options button. Check the box next to 'Show tray icon.' Click 'OK' to make the change. Occasionally, the Webshots calendar date may not update automatically. In this case, update your calendar by pressing the CTRL SHIFT W keys simultaneously on your keyboard. Also, the Webshots calendar receives its information from your internal clock. To update your internal clock, double click on the time on the bottom right side of your computer. Update the date and click OK. Refresh your wallpaper in order for the Webshots calendar to update.

  81. I only see a little white box with a message that says, 'no images to display.'

  82. Make sure you have at least one collection in the Desktop Application marked as active. Each collection has its own corresponding checkbox at the center of the collections window under "active." To check this, open your Webshots Desktop Application and click the Wallpaper and Screensavers tab. You will see a list of all of your collections. Make sure that there is a check in the active box next to at least one collection.

    If you continue to have problems, check your settings to make sure that you are using Webshots as your screensaver and wallpaper. To do this, click on the Options button and select the Screensaver tab. Be sure there is a check in the box next to Use Webshots as screensaver. Now, select the Wallpaper tab and place a check in the box next to Use Webshots wallpaper on desktop.

  83. My screen saver only runs for a short time before the monitor goes black. Why won?t the screen saver stay on?

  84. Within your Control Panel Display settings there is an option that shuts your monitor off after a period of non-use. To change this:

    Go to your Start menu.

    Select Settings.

    Click on Control Panel.

    Double click on Display.

    Click on the Screen Saver tab.

    At the bottom of this Window is a section on Energy Saving features. Click the Advanced button.

    Change the setting for Turn Monitor off: to Never.

    Click OK.

  85. I get the message: An unnamed file was not found. What should I do?

  86. It sounds like your Collection files are read only. You'll need to change the file attributes:

    Open the Webshots Data folder. This is, by default, saved in My Documents. Open an album.

    Right click on a wbc file and then left click on properties.

    Uncheck the box next to read only and click OK.

    Repeat for each Collection file or album.

  87. Does the Webshots Desktop Application have any adware or spyware?

  88. The Webshots Desktop software does not contain spyware or adware of any kind. Webshots does not install any tracking software on your system or collect personal information about you and your browsing habits. Webshots software does not "spy" on other programs you run or websites you visit. The Webshots software does not come bundled with any third party software.

  89. When I click on a link in the Webshots Desktop software it says 'Unable to open hyperlink.' Why am I getting this message?

  90. Please completely reinstall the Webshots Desktop Application. Follow these instructions carefully.

    1. Click the Start button or Windows logo in the lower left corner of your monitor screen.

    2. Select Control Panel and double click Add or Remove Programs. In you have Vista or Windows 7, please select Programs and Features.

    3. Select 'Webshots Desktop' and click 'Remove' ('Uninstall' for Vista or Windows 7).

    4. During the process, a window will appear with the following message: "Do you want to delete all downloaded Webshots photos?" Click 'No.' This will prevent your Collections from being deleted.

    5. Another box will appear to request answers to a survey. Click 'No' again.

    6. After Webshots has been removed, visit http://www.webshots.com/page/apps?app=desktop and click the 'Download Now' button.

    7. Webshots will find previously downloaded Collections and automatically add them during installation.

  91. Is there a version of the Webshots Desktop Software for Macintosh?

  92. Currently, Webshots Desktop Application for downloading photos is not compatible with Mac computers. Going forward, we will work to make more features compatible with Macs. Right now, though, you can enjoy our amazing photos with our Daily Photos widget, and you can upload your photos via the website and enter them in our Creative Challenge photo contests!

  93. Why do I have a new search installed on my browser?

  94. When members download our Desktop Application, they are provided the option of including webshots preferred search provider. This is why the search preference was changed in your browser. If you wish to change your search prefernce, use the dropdown menu to the right of the search field on your browser to reset your browser.

    • You are the administrator or have administrative privileges for your computer

    • Your antivirus programs accepts the installer

    • You have your Webshots user name and password handy as you will need to sign in to personalize the application

    The Webshots Desktop is currently supported under Windows 2000, XP, Vista and Windows 7.

  100. Although we don't support the 64-bit system, our members use our Desktop Application successfully with this system. Please be sure you are using the 32-bit version of Internet Explorer to access our website in order to download the Software. Please check the following to make sure that you're ready to download the Webshots Software.

    1. You are the administrator or have administrative privileges for your computer.

    2. Your Internet Security program(s) accepts the installer.

    3. Your firewall does not block the installer.

    4. You have your Webshots user name and password handy as you will need to sign in to personalize the application. When you put these in their respective fields, please be sure to not have any spaces before or after the user name or password. Please type this information in lower case.

  105. My login information is not being accepted by the Webshots Desktop. Why not, and what can I do?

  106. Your login is not being accepted because your email is not yet confirmed in the Webshots system. You need to confirm your email address by clicking on the link that was sent to you when you first signed up for Webshots. If you don't have the email, sign in to Webshots with your member name and password. You'll then be directed to a page that will give you the option of having the confirmation email sent to you again. Once you receive the email, simply click on the link to confirm your email address.

  107. Why do I need to confirm my email address on Webshots?

  108. When you initially sign up for an account with Webshots, we require that you
    confirm your email address before you can be a part of the Webshots community.
    This is a step towards halting potential Spam accounts, and it also helps
    members who may have misspelled their email address upon signing up to correct
    that mistake. Once you receive the confirmation email at the email address you
    provided, simply click on the link in the email to confirm the validity of your
    email address. When this is completed, you can begin enjoying Webshots at your
    leisure!

  109. Am I able to back up my photos I have uploaded to Webshots?

  110. To back up photos you've uploaded to Webshots, open the Webshots Desktop Application and follow these directions:

    1. Select the 'My Files Online' tab and click the 'Login' button.

    2. Click the 'Back up your files' link in the bottom, right corner.

    3. Click 'Start.'

    4. Select a location on your computer to save the images and click 'Select.'

    If you are a Premium Member, the directions above will download all your photos to your local drive. If you are a Free Member, this will download the first album.

    You can save the rest of your photos individually, too. To save a photo as a jpg file, click on the photo that you would like to save, and then click 'Full size' from the edit screen. Now, right click on the photo and select 'Save Picture As...' Remember where you save the photo so you can find it later.
